Heather's Story

Perinatal client, Heather with advisor, Emma

"Being able to join my children in their adventures, whether it was climbing frames or exploring soft play tunnels was my biggest reason to change. I didn't want to be the mum who constantly said, 'Sorry, love, mummy can't do that.'"

Heather, a 33-year-old mum of two from Sunnyhill, shares the June Client of the Month award on Livewell’s Perinatal programme. This supportive 12-month initiative helps women to safely manage their weight and adopt healthier lifestyles during and after pregnancy.

Motivated by her desire to actively play with her two children, Heather lost over three stones in nine months after the birth of her daughter. Her journey began in July 2024, inspired by a Facebook post from Connected Perinatal. A chance meeting with Livewell specialist advisor, Emma at an organised walk at Alvaston Park the following day confirmed that the programme was right for her.

Heather explains, “Before my son was born in June 2022, my weight was an issue. I struggled to lose it before my next pregnancy, leaving me uncomfortable and unable to keep up with my toddler. Traditional diet groups didn’t suit me, but Livewell’s Perinatal service offered a realistic, supportive approach.”

She appreciated the tailored advice on healthy eating, exercise, and wellbeing, specifically designed for pregnancy and post-natal health. Being able to bring her daughter to sessions was crucial, allowing her to participate in Mum and Baby Yoga and the Outdoor Exercise class without worry.

Heather notes, “We now enjoy healthier family meals and reduced portion sizes. Emma’s support and encouragement, along with the camaraderie of other mums, have been invaluable. I’ve embraced challenges like Livewell’s Start Over September and Move IT May, and I’m more active than ever.”

On a recent family trip to Center Parcs, Heather enjoyed cycling around the village and participating in activities she previously couldn’t, even winning a family TAG Challenge (a multi-zone arena like the TV show, Ninja Warrior). She concludes, “I love being active with my kids. Now I say, ‘come and join me!’.”

Livewell advisor, Emma Winchester added:  “From the beginning, Heather has shown unwavering dedication to the programme. She consistently engages with the support provided, sets achievable goals, and has continued to deliver impressive progress week after week. Beyond her own journey, Heather has also been a valuable source of encouragement and advice to fellow clients.  Fantastic work Heather!”
