Walk this way, it's My Miles May!

We all know that regular exercise is fantastic for our physical and mental wellbeing.  Walking briskly most days not only boosts your fitness but also helps to burn calories and support weight loss.  In addition, it can reduce the risk of developing health problems like type 2 diabetes, cancer, heart disease and stroke.

Make May the month to walk or move your way to a healthier and happier you!  The challenge starts on Friday 1 May and ends Sunday 31 May. 

How it works

Choose from four levels, given as a monthly total, allowing you to select a goal that suits your needs and provides a challenge. We’ve provided daily breakdowns in miles, steps and alternative exercise if your mobility is restricted.  You could choose to walk or exercise for longer at the weekend or when you're less busy to meet your weekly targets.

1 mile is equivalent to 20 minutes of exercise.  This includes activities such as Livewell classes, gym sessions, swimming, or any form of workout.

Bronze: 62 miles = 2 miles a day, 4000 steps a day or 40 minutes of exercise daily.

Silver: 93 miles = 3 miles a day, 6000 steps a day or 60 minutes of exercise daily.

Gold: 124 miles = 4 miles a day, 8000 steps a day or 80 minutes of exercise daily.

Platinum: 155 miles = 5 miles a day, 10,000 steps a day or 100 minutes of exercise daily.

Clients - what you need to do

Pick up: Get your My Miles in May tracker sheet from a Drop-In from w/c 20 April

Sign up: Email your advisor by Thursday 30 April indicating the level you aim to achieve.

Track your progress:  Start tracking your walking or exercise activities from Friday 1 May.  Share your progress and photos from your walks on our Facebook page and in our Facebook group, and enjoy our new Smile on Your Mile feature! Encourage friends and family to support or join you!

Weekly updates: Send a weekly email to your advisor summarising the miles or minutes of exercise you've completed.  This helps them provide tailored motivation and support.

Completion reward: After successfully completing the challenge, your advisor will acknowledge your achievement, and you can have your tracker calendar signed by our team at a drop-in.  

Public/walkers/volunteers - what you need to do

Sign up: Email us at [email protected] by Friday 1 May to specify the level you aim to reach.

Track your progress:  Start tracking your walking/exercise from Friday 1 May. Download and print our Tracker Calendar to help you.  Share your progress on our Facebook page and in our Facebook group (volunteers only) and engage your friends and family too!

Weekly updates: Email weekly updates to [email protected] summarising the miles or minutes of exercise you’ve completed.

Completion reward:  Upon completing the challenge, email [email protected] for a well-deserved acknowledgement from our team.
